Thane: A 37-year-old Thane resident allegedly strangled his wife to death over suspicion of an extramarital affair before he walked into Vartak Nagar police station and surrendered on Thursday.The accused, Nitin Tupe, who is employed as a driver, allegedly used a dupatta to strangulate his 30-year-old wife inside their home while their two children were at schoolPolice said Tupe had long suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair, and recurring disputes over the issue allegedly culminated in the murder. After the killing, Nitin allegedly informed an acquaintance about the crime before proceeding to Vartak Nagar police station, where he surrendered.Acting on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, police registered a murder case against Tupe under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested him. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the murder.The couple’s two children have been placed in the care of relatives, police said.
