Seven railway employees were arrested in connection with unauthorised sale of tickets in separate instances between 2022 and mid 2026

Mumbai: Over the past five years, 1,676 cases of unauthorised sale of railway tickets were registered by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Central Railway, a response to a Right to Information (RTI) plea revealed. In this period — between Jan 2022 and June 2026 — journey-cum-reservation (JCR) tickets valued at Rs 88.4 lakh and e-tickets worth Rs 9.62 crore were seized. The information was provided by the RPF in response to an RTI plea made by activist Anil Galgali and also detailed the number of railway employees found involved in the offence.According to the information provided by the RPF, the highest number of cases of unauthorised sale of tickets (502) was registered in 2024. Over five years, more than 2,000 people (1641 touts and 410 agents) were arrested. No agent has been arrested till June this year.Seven railway employees were arrested in connection with unauthorised sale of tickets in separate instances between 2022 and mid 2026. These included a reservation clerk from Pandharpur, a senior commercial clerk from Pandharpur, a staffer from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, a staffer from Ambernath, a senior booking clerk from Kamaleshwar (in Nagpur), etc. A railway employee from Hotgi (in Solapur) was convicted.
