Mumbai: India won two gold and four silver medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Shanghai, China.Competing against 666 students from 117 countries at the largest-ever edition of the Olympiad, the Indian contingent secured an unofficial global rank of seventh. This is also the fourth consecutive year that India has finished among the top 10 countries at the prestigious competition.Aarav Gupta from Delhi and Abel George Mathew from Karnataka won gold medals. Bairav Murugan from Karnataka, Kanav Talwar from Delhi, Sanjana Philo Chacko from Kerala and Shreya Shantanu Mundhada from Mumbai bagged silver medals.The team was led by Mainak Ghosh of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education serving as deputy leader. Siddharth Choppara of Chennai Mathematical Institute and Adhitya Mangudy of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, accompanied the team as observers.Significantly, three members of the mentoring team are themselves former IMO medal winners, who returned to guide the next generation of mathematical talent.
