Palghar: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped by six men on a deserted road in Talasari taluka of Palghar district on Sunday, after her boyfriend was assaulted and chased away. Talasari police have arrested three of the accused, while a hunt is on for the remaining three.According to police, the couple had gone to Umargaon in Gujarat on Sunday. While returning, their two-wheeler skid near Aamgaon and they fell on the road. Three men, who arrived on a motorcycle, allegedly intimidated the couple and called three of their friends. The group of six allegedly assaulted and chased away the boyfriend, before dragging the woman to a secluded spot near Dag Bungalow in Talasari, where she was gangraped.The traumatised woman approached Talasari police station on Monday and lodged a complaint. Her boyfriend, who had fled the spot in fear, also turned up at the police station and recorded his statement.Police registered a case of gangrape and launched an investigation. Based on the woman’s statement, one accused was arrested, followed by two more on Tuesday.The survivor underwent a medical examination and is stated to be stable.Special teams have been formed to track down the remaining accused, said inspector Ajay Gorad of Talasari police station.
