Navi Mumbai: A police patil from Raigad, Sanket Kotwal (32), was run over by an ST bus after he fell on a cratered road stretch opposite the Roha railway station on Thursday, police said.Kotwal was riding a two-wheeler towards Roha when he lost control on a pothole and fell. An ST bus following him ran over him, resulting in his on-the-spot death.Hundreds of locals organised a massive protest on Friday, blocking the Roha-Nagothane road for hours, except for students and emergency service vehicles. Traffic movement was stalled during their protest.Kotwal’s relatives, demanding action against the road contractor, declined to take the body for 18 hours. The protesters were demanding justice rather than compensation.The Roha-Ashtami railway flyover work was progressing slowly for the last 4 years. The protesting locals raised concerns over the apathetic attitude of the PWD and railway officials. Various protests by auto-rickshaw drivers and others were organised in the past to press their demand for a well-maintained road, but to no avail.The Roha police filed a fatal accident case, booking the ST driver for negligent and rash driving, among other relevant sections of the BNS and Motor Vehicle Act.
