Mumbai: A 50-year-old woman and a 21-year-old motorcyclist were both killed after a speeding motorcyclist allegedly hit the woman while she was crossing the Mahim Causeway with her two daughters on Monday night.The deceased woman, Mangla Tandel, and the biker, Dhruv Gurav, were both Mahim residents.The police said the accident took place around 9.20 pm on General Arun Kumar Vaid Marg near Mahim Causeway. The deceased woman, Mangla, was crossing the road with her two daughters to visit a relative living across the street.Her husband, Ashok Tandel, 54, who works with Bank of Baroda, said he rushed out of his home after hearing the sound of a crash and found his wife and the motorcycle rider lying seriously injured on the road. A KTM motorcycle was found at the spot.With the help of bystanders, Mangla was taken to Raheja Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at around 10.15 pm. Mahim police identified the biker as Dhruv Gurav, who was initially taken to Bhabha Hospital and later shifted to Raheja Hospital, where he also succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police are awaiting the reports of his blood samples to ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol. However, the eyewitnesses said the bike was at a high speed when it hit Mangla.Based on Ashok Tandel’s complaint, Mahim police have registered a case alleging that Gurav was riding the motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner, resulting in the fatal collision. Further investigation into the accident is underway.
